About this Event
Join Helen and Sholto to celebrate the launch of their new album A Poet’s Love released on May 8th on BIS Records. In an imaginative evening of song, they traverse tales of desire, nostalgia, fragility and consolation bringing the past and present together in lyricalconversation.
Full of blurred boundaries between reality and imagination in life and love, Heinrich Heine’s poetry is at the heart of this programme. His vivid writing was the creative catalyst for so many composers across the centuries, most famously Robert Schumann in his 1840 song cycle Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love) which forms the centre of today’s programme. Alongside this great cycle, we hear Héloïse Werner Knight’s Dream written for the artists which cherishes Heine’s exquisite words in the way that only she can, playing with the words and the listener at every opportunity. Her postlude is both a wonderful homage to Schumann, and the perfect prelude to the magical land of Dichterliebe.
