About the artists:
Sock Revival pairs precisely woven harmonies and atmospheric acoustic guitar to create soothing, meditative music. Fans of Simon and Garfunkel, Iron and Wine, Nick Drake, and Sufjan Stevens will find something familiar, but Sock Revival “never sounds derivative,” according to thewildiscallingus.com. Sock Revival has captivated audiences at the Grape Room, Dawson Street Pub, the Fallser Club, and throughout the Philadelphia DIY scene since 2018. Their most recent album, “It Takes too Long,” was released in 2023. Indie Dock Music Blog wrote that it “explores the themes of love, life among people and nature, and feeling oneself in this world. Only the folk guitar and harmonious voices create an incredible palette of sounds and sensations.” They are currently working on their fourth album.
Since 2019, Fiona McHugh has been playing and hustling throughout the venues and streets of Philadelphia. Her first EP, “Just Passing Through,” released in May 2022, radiates with the energetic pulse of folk, rock, and pop melodies. However, a few years later, after a significant turn of events, she released “The Cage & Key,” a haunting series that began to unravel the raw essence of her voice and marked a significant shift in her art.
Danny has been writing songs since 2015 and filing them under the name woehrwolf, a portmanteau of their surname and the canis lupus we know and love from graphic tees the world over. The conglomeration invokes the lycanthrope, which perhaps once described the nature of the music to oscillate between a low growl and a cathartic scream. These days it might be better described as the man waking in a field, naked and sweaty, confused and ashamed and trying to make sense of the past. Through song! These are songs about fear and pain and anxiety, contextualized by all the mysterious distractions of a life, ADHD, plus good things like laughing and rhyming. Owing the courage to write in the first place to the folk punk and bedroom diy tradition, and a life long love of bluegrass and country sadboys, these are guitar songs, finger picked, focused on a simple melody. You could probably imagine a banjo or some whining pedal steel accompanying in your mind's ear. Though the lyrics may be obscured at times by dreamlike association, they tell the truth with the aim of distilling more concentrated truths about the self. Giving context to the past, and tempering anger and frustration with nuance and whimsy.
