About this Event
Welcome to A Night At The Art Exhibit! Join us at the Smith Center for Healing and the Arts for an evening filled with creativity and inspiration. Immerse yourself in a world of color, texture, and emotion as you explore stunning artwork from a local artist. This in-person event is designed to support The Smith Center and to raise awareness for maternal mortality in the African diaspora! Yes, this event is free, but the ask involves collecting diapers for families in need to donate to MedStar Health’s D.C. . If you didn't know, Black Women have the highest maternal mortality rate in the United States at almost three times the rate than the next leading demographic.
We are super excited for this event. This will be a night of art, music, candle making, friendship, and philanthropy. Courtney Applequist will be the featured artist and will join a talk-back with The Smith Center's Executive Director, Lisa Simms Booth. London Cooper, of London Wick, will be hosting a candle making workshop where individuals can create their own scent for a fee. Aaron Jackson will be leading a jazz trio to provide sounds throughout the night. Kofi will be on the one's and two's. In addition to these artists, we have some great collabs and sponsors to announce soon!
There will also be a chance to win original artwork and a monetary gift all while contributing to The Smith Center's Cancer Retreat Program! This is truly a birthday celebration with a cause.
Wine, refreshments, and light food will be provided! Please do not miss this chance to mingle with fellow art enthusiasts. This night will definitely be a unique opportunity to experience the power of art in a welcoming and supportive environment. Come and be a part of something truly special!
