Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is pleased to welcome back violinist and author Gerald Elias and pianist Michelle Huang to the library for A Classical Kaleidoscope. Enjoy a performance of Sonata in G Minor, “Devil’s Trill,” by Giuseppe Tartini, Four Romantic Pieces, Op. 75, by Antonín Dvořák, Sonata in A Major, Op. posth. 162, by Franz Schubert, and “Danse Macabre,” Op. 40, by Camille Saint-Saëns. This eclectic program of virtuoso violin compositions was especially selected from Gerald Elias’s “Daniel Jacobus” series of mystery novels, previously featured at Folio's Musical Murder Mystery author panel.Join us for an intimate evening of musical performances in the round, which puts audience members close enough to read the music on the stands. The duration of the recital is 75 minute, followed by a wine reception to conclude the evening.
Gerald Elias is a former violinist with the Boston Symphony and associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony. He has been music director and conductor of Salt Lake City’s Vivaldi by Candlelight chamber orchestra series since 2004 and is also a noted novelist and short story author.
Michelle Huang, a native of Taiwan, holds a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from Florida State University, Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Tennessee, and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has performed extensively in the US and internationally, and is in great demand as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher here in the Seattle area.
