About this Event
Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body; Mens sana in corpore sano.
Edgewood Center for Children and Families invites you to the Second Edgewood Open on June 8th, 2024! Come enjoy summer tennis and pickleball play at Golden Gate Park’s state-of-the-art Lisa and Douglas Goldman Tennis Center. 100% of event proceeds will provide a welcome kit for a child in Edgewood’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). The CSU provides 24/7/365 medical access and protection for children experiencing self-harm and mental health emergencies. It is the only one of its kind in the city of San Francisco where 88% of youth admitted were diverted from traumatic inpatient psychiatric care.
For millennia, scholars have emphasized the integral role that physical well-being plays in regulating our mental health and capacity. Circa 200AD, the Roman poet Juvenal listed “a healthy mind in a healthy body” first in a list of what is desirable in life (Satire X).
Since 1851, Edgewood has been a beacon to generations of children, youth, and families in the Bay Area. This past year, we served over 2,000 members of our community, providing mental and behavioral health services and delivering resources to ensure children and families are able to remain as a unit, living under one home, despite economic hardship. For families experiencing mental health crises or economic hardship, we are known to them as “The Place to Begin.” At Edgewood, we provide a continuum of care and do that for the entire family.
The suggested donation of $100 will provide for 2 hours of round-robin play (facilitated by a Tennis Pro and Pickleball Specialist) and food and refreshments during the on-site afternoon social. Community members who are unable to join us in person this, are invited to make a donation to the event to support the CSU.
