About this Event

This event is hosted in collaboration with the Cambodian Association of Illinois.
CHICAGO, Ill. — The National Cambodian Heritage Museum and Killing Fields Memorial will host an evening of reflection, remembrance, and hope on Thursday, April 17, to honor the more than 2 million lives lost during the Cambodian genocide from 1975 to 1979.
Open to the public, the event will bring together community members for a Bangskol ceremony, storytelling, and musical performances that honor those lives, recognize the enduring strength of survivors, and create space for collective healing across generations.

The memorial museum educates visitors about Cambodian ancient and modern history, the refugee experience, and the Cambodian American community today.
“Many of our elders continue to carry the deep wounds of the Cambodian genocide, and that pain has shaped younger generations through both the stories that were told and the silences that were kept. This gathering gives us a forum to remember together, honor our shared humanity, and continue healing by meeting our history with compassion and care,” said Laura Ouk, Board President of the National Cambodian Heritage Museum.

The event will take place at the National Cambodian Heritage Museum, 2831 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, IL 60625, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
Hosted in collaboration with the Cambodian Association of Illinois, the evening welcomes all who wish to stand in remembrance and solidarity with the Cambodian community.
