About this Event
The Adaoha C. Hamilton Scholarship was created by the Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated as a way to celebrate the life of our beloved Soror Adaoha C. Hamilton as well as the talented youth in the New York tri-state area high schools. Each year, Rho Chapter hosts a reception to formally award the scholarship recipient and to celebrate the influence that art has had on our everyday lives.
Soror Adaoha C. Hamilton’s true love was her passion for the Arts. She was an accomplished poet, writer, actress, and dancer. During her time at Columbia University, Adaoha was not simply a member of the Black Theatre Ensemble, she also wrote, produced, and starred in a production during her senior year. Adaoha continually impressed both friends and colleagues with the power of her written word. She produced art that was at once incredibly relevant and meaningful, as it was startling beautiful. Yet, most importantly, she produced work that touched upon larger issues that spoke to the human condition.
To celebrate the spirit of Soror Hamilton, Rho Chapter provides financial support to a female high school senior of color who has demonstrated excellence in the Arts and wishes to pursue a 4-year baccalaureate degree in this field. We require that the applicant have a minimum accumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
