Join the Sin City Writers for a scary good time at our annual Halloween Party and Story Contest! Whether you're a long-time member or just learned about the group and are looking to find out what the heck we're all about, this is a great chance to get together and celebrate the spookiest time of year. Snacks and NA beverages will be provided, and the bar will be open for you to purchase grown-up drinks if you so choose. Costumes are not required but are so very much encouraged!NOTE: You do not need to participate in the story contest to attend. All are welcome to attend, mingle, and listen!
Contest Rules:
--1,800 Word Max (about the same as a typical 10-minute read)
--You must use all of the provided words, but they can be in any configuration and in any form. For example, if the word is “devour” you can still use “devoured, devours, devourers,” and so on.
--Your story can be scary, funny, dramatic, romantic, etc., and it should tie in some way to the theme of Halloween or a similar holiday (Samhain, Dia de los Muertos, etc). The goal is to be creative and festive!
--Stories will be read aloud at the Halloween party on Tuesday October 28th and voted on by party attendees. Names will be removed from every submission so people won’t know who wrote which story. You must be present to win unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
--If your story contains material that some may find objectionable, please include a disclaimer at the beginning, or note that we may add one prior to reading it out loud.
--In keeping with the spirit (so to speak) of this contest, please don’t use AI to write any part of your story. If we suspect AI use, we reserve the right to disqualify a submission. But we don’t want to do that, so please just steer clear in this case.
Entry Fee & Prizes:
$5 CASH at the door. The winner (or winners in case of a tie) takes the whole pot!

*Style points have no bearing in the judging process and cannot be redeemed for cash.
Entry Deadline:
Sunday, October 26th at 11:59pm PT. Email your story to [email protected] with the subject line SCWG HALLOWEEN STORY. If you do not receive a confirmation email by Monday the 27th, please double-check that I have received it.
