Final Girls Berlin Film Festival is back for its 10th edition! The opening night feature MI BESTIA (dir. Camila Beltrán, Berlin Premiere) from Colombia follows a young girl whose body transformation coincides with what may be the arrival of the Devil himself. In YOU ARE NOT ME (dirs. Marisa Crespo & Moisés Romera, German Premiere) a woman visits her family and finds her home forever changed and not for the better, and the documentary WITCHES (dir. Elizabeth Sankey) interweaves the portrayal of witches in cinema with the pathologizations women face in contemporary society. Jane Schoenbrun’s I SAW THE TV GLOW about a mysterious TV show that entrances two queer teens will also play at the fest as well as the body horror phenomenon THE SUBSTANCE (dir. Coralie Fargeat), the bloody, high-octane GRAFTED (dir. Sasha Rainbow, German Premiere) about a university student fueled by ambition and revenge, and DES TEUFELS BAD (dirs. Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala), the dark, gripping tale of an unhappy woman who is stifled by her 18th century Austrian surroundings. This year’s retrospective is the grimy and unconventional LA serial killer film HOLLYWOOD 90028 (dir. Christina Hornisher).The curated theme blocks delve into real life nightmares such as capitalism, cults, and hostile environments as well as more campy terrain like the carnivalesque and midnight blocks. Beyond screenings, there'll be a book presentation of That Very Witch: Fear, Feminism, and the American Witch Film as well as talks on Japanese director Kei Fujiwara, Turkish horror, Cronenberg’s DEAD RINGERS, and a female rage self defense workshop. Prepare for five days chock-full of horror delights at Final Girls Berlin!
