Saturday, Aug 3: Hip Hop Workshops

Artist: Company Director and Founding Member CMI, Shontal Snider

Bio: Shontal Snider attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida on a music scholarship where she studied Percussion and the Trombone. She returned to the DC area and began her training in Hip-Hop dance when she joined Capitol Movement Inc., and currently choreographs all over the Metropolitan region. Shontal is the Professional Company Hip Hop Director and founding member of the Capitol Movement organization. For three years, she was Assistant Director for the NBA Jr. Wizards dance team, known as the Capital Kidz, and the WNBA Mystics Mayhem dance team. Shontal's choreography has awarded her the Federal Dance Competition's People’s Choice Award for the Southeast Region. She is an advocate for Hip Hop and continues to perform worldwide supporting dance as a culture. Shontal’s most recent resume includes tours to Japan, Italy, and Turkey performing for the military troops.

Sunday, Aug 4: Contemporary/Jazz Workshops

Artist: Co-Founder CMI, Stephanie Jojokian

Bio: Stephanie Jojokian has had a tenured career in dance choreography, education and leadership. She spent 17 years with the NFL Washington Football Team, leading the cheerleaders, choreographing and producing shows for overseas military goodwill tours, and before joining Washington Football (The Commanders currently), she spent eight years as Director and Choreographer of the NBA Washington Wizards Dancers. Stephanie has danced and toured worldwide across twenty countries performing and producing Military Appreciation Tours for the NBA and NFL, Urban Moves, and Capitol Movement.  She has danced professionally with the NBA, NFL, Urban Moves Hip Hop Company, Carla & Company (Carla Perlo, the Founder of Dance Place), Modern Company, and was a member of Tony Powell Music and Movement Contemporary Company.

Artist: Ayanna Quander

Bio: Ayanna “yaya” Quander was born in Northwest washington dc. She started her formal training at the Dance Institute of Washington in ballet in 2008. After gaining a solid foundation in technique she joined local dance groups such as; Culture shock, Future shock and Colours. She expanded her training and education by attending University of the arts and graduating in 2014. During those years of training, she attended the Rock school for dance education, The Alvin Ailey summer intensive, and many freelance gigs with choreographers and artists. To name a few: Ronen Koresh, Tommy Waheed, Leikli47 and Musiq Soulchild. She has also been on the top 60 of SYTYCD and performed on Fox 5. She currently continues to educate the youth and adults through training classes.

AUDITIONS for the Professional Company and Teen Apprentice Company will take place daily. Auditions for the Hip Hop Company will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, and for the Technical Company on August 4th. If you wish to be considered for both companies, please attend auditions on both days.

AUDITIONS for the CMI Kidz company will be held during both of the Kids workshops

Bio: Capitol Movement Inc. (CMI) encompasses our Professional Dance Company, our Apprentices/Pre-Professional Dance Company, and CMI Kidz. We offer a diverse array of dance classes, workshops, and performances ranging from jazz to contemporary and beyond. CMI Kidz serves dancers aged 5-12, CMI Apprentices caters to teens aged 13-17, and CMI Professional Company is tailored for experienced dancers aged 18 and up.

Members of Capitol Movement Dance Company have participated in overseas "Freedom Tours" with Armed Forces Entertainment, showcased at the unveiling of the new Ferrari F12berlinetta, appeared in various dance productions across the DC area as featured guests, and instructed classes for individuals of all ages, skill levels, and socioeconomic backgrounds. CMI stages its own productions 2-3 times annually, featuring performances by all our companies.
