The Snowdonia National Park boasts vast areas of natural beauty and unique scenery. It is also known as ‘Eryri’, a Welsh name that can be translated as ‘the place of the eagles’. Covering 838 square miles, it is the largest and oldest national park in Wales. There are nine mountain ranges here and they cover over half of the national park’s surface.
Departing from London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to Snowdon – the tallest mountain in England and Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level. Arriving in the afternoon, we'll start our climb to the top, via the South Ridge Path. Some people say that it is the most adventurous route up Snowdon, as it opens up the most striking mountain scenery, away from the crowds, and rewards walkers with over two kilometres of a thrilling rocky ridgeline. The path sticks close to the crest, and although a little exposed, it is safe. We'll enjoy exceptional views and take many great photos of the beautiful glacial lakes and the surrounding peaks of the Snowdon Massif mountain range. After reaching the summit, we'll take a well-deserved rest. The descent is via a different route, the Rhyd Ddu Path. After the hike, we'll drive to our hotel, where we'll enjoy a delicious dinner.
Sunday will be much more relaxing. We'll visit the hidden gem – the Aber Valley on the north coast, with its spectacular cascade of waterfalls. The Aber Falls tumble down 40 metres from the Carneddau mountain range, and have earned the title of the most ‘Instagrammable’ 📸 waterfall in the UK. We'll follow the North Wales Path along the scenic hillsides and enjoy superb views of the coastline and Lafan Sands. After the hike, we'll stop for lunch in the medieval town of Conwy – a great opportunity to see the Smallest House in Great Britain, just 1.8 metres wide and 2.8 metres tall! 🏠
