The 1960s were a decade of immense richness and diversity for Japanese cinema in both forms and styles. We are shining the spotlight on this period between the Golden Age and the Nouvelle Vague with a cross-sectional program featuring a number of directors who are little known in the West, thus broadening perspectives on Japanese film from this period. Featured will be 21 works from filmmakers Susumu Hani, Masaki Kobayashi, Koreyoshi Kurahara, Toshio Matsumoto, Kenji Misumi, Kaneto Shindo, Hiroshi Teshigahara, Tomu Uchida, and Kiju Yoshida. Program
