Join Cinea and De Cinema in early July for ZOMERFILMCOLLEGE 2026: a week of in-depth lectures by internationally renowned critics and academics, Q&As with filmmakers, and screenings of both original 35mm copies and recent digital restorations!This 31st (!) edition features two diverse programme strands. HEARTS OF THE WORLD: GLOBAL FLOWS OF MELODRAMA, presented in collaboration with the UAntwerpen - Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte, demonstrates how melodrama’s versatility allowed it to travel the world. With lectures by Professor Ben Singer (University of Wisconsin, Madison) and Dr. Viola Shafik (freelance filmmaker/lecturer/researcher).
In CINEMA OF POETRY: TEXTURE AND MOOD IN NARRATIVE FILM, we look for the elusive qualities—mystery, mood, texture, sensuality, etc.—that constitute ‘the poetic’ in narrative film. Guest speakers include ZFC habitués and film critics Adrian Martin and Cristina Álvarez López.
