Dutch saxophone pride pays tribute to David Bowie with the new album Crossing Spirits.------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yuri Honing has been inspired by David Bowie from a very young age—he started playing saxophone after hearing David Sanborn’s solo in Bowie’s ‘Young Americans’. The Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet has released several Bowie covers, for example ‘Bring Me the Disco King’ on the album True that was recorded in Berlin. Now the band will explore the Bowie phenomenon through the ‘reworks’ method: parts of Bowie’s music, but also his art and his innovative spirit will be used as input for new renditions.
The Yuri Honing Quartet is strongly motivated by Bowie’s eccentricity, in the sense that he created only for himself without being distracted by the expectations of others. Listeners are enthusiastic about the quartet’s Bowie interpretations—the track ‘After All’ has already gathered eight million streams. The love for Bowie, his expression, theatricality and ability to assemble talent, formed the point of departure for the new album by the Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet, Crossing Spirits.
