About this Event
Original heartfelt Folk-Funk-Latin-Jazz experience!
Yazmin and Beat Zero is a melting pot of influences, led by singer-songwriter and pianist Yazmin. She weaves heartfelt lyrics with Cuban-influenced rhythms and sounds, shaped by years of study in Havana meshing with her deep Folk, Rock and Jazz musical roots from childhood. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of influences from Joni Mitchell to Queen, Stevie Wonder to Chucho Valdés, this show features Minneapolis local legend Prudence Johnson as a guest vocalist and the Havana Quartet, a powerhouse group of young string players from Cuba who are taking Minneapolis by storm. Hailing from the woods of Northern Wisconsin, Yazmin grew up in a musical family and was immersed in the life of a musician from the beginning. At thirteen, she discovered Cuban music and her world blew wide open and changed forever. Over the course of her career, she has shared the stage with the likes of Nanci Griffith, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Yusa, Maykel Blanco, and Akie Bermiss of Lake Street Dive. With her band Beat Zero, she reaches across existing music genres to create a new sound that transmits their shared deep love and care for the world.
"Yazmin approaches music like she does life and her sound is all the more rich and vivacious for it. As a world traveler and musician, Yazmin shares and expresses her experiences in song. Set to melody and rhythm she celebrates her own personal journey aloud as she inspires and connects audiences with a pure authenticity taking them along for the ride." Daniel Sigelman Jazz88.FM
