Reclaim your closet and harvest your own yarn!
About this Event

Love the material but not the garment? Give a new life to a secondhand sweater or t-shirt and use the reclaimed yarn in a new project! Perfect for those wool, cotton or acrylic sweaters in your closet that are stained or don't fit your personal style anymore.
Bring a secondhand sweater from your closet, thrift store or The Nest! We will unravel these sweaters and ball them up, ready to be reused as yarn for your next knitting, weaving or crochet project.

Bring an old t-shirt to create one strand of t-shirt yarn by cutting it up in a circular pattern. Perfect for crochets heavy duty projects!

Who Your Are: You want to try a sustainable way of sourcing yarn. You do not need any experience!

Class Structure: Hands on workshop led by textile educator, Keelin Maloney. 2 hours of time required. Workshop will be broken down into 2 hour time slots.

Class Curriculum: Each workshop student will learn how to reclaim yarn from sweaters & t-shirts. We will be seam ripping, sectioning, blocking and balling yarn up!

Participant Outcome: Participants will leave our workshop with ready to use yarn for their next fiber arts project, by saving one more garment from the landfill!

What is Provided: Space for reclaiming yarn, ball winders, rotary cutters and cutting mats.

What You Must Bring: Bring your own garment for harvesting. If you have your own, you can bring a yarn ball winder or rotary cutter! We will also have these tools for use.
