About this Event
When eight-year-old Rogelio's parents send him away to his nanny’s hometown in the Yucatan jungle, his obsession leads him to dreams of ghosts. After his new friends reveal that his dreams may hold some truth, Rogelio lives an adventure that changes his view on life and death forever.
Director Biography - Manuela Irene
Mexican/ Colombian filmmaker. She held a FONCA grant in 2010. In 2013, she participated in Cine Qua Non Lab and the Project Development Workshop from IBERMEDIA. Her short film A Gesture was selected for FICM 2015 and Cinélatino 2016. Her short Sol del llano premiered at Clermont-Ferrand 2020 and it was selected at REGARD, Huelva, Edinburgh and Tampere. In 2021, her feature project Xibalba Monster obtained funding from IMCINE and Visions Sud Est. In 2022, Xibalba Monster was selected for Ventana Sur in Primer Corte section for WIPs, where it was awarded the Trieste Film Festival/ APCLAI Prize and the CAACI Prize. In 2023 she obtained financial support from IMCINE for the film’s post-production which is currently in its final stage.
