Kunsang Wangmo, known as “Mola” (grandmother) has been away from home for nearly 60 years. A Buddhist nun exiled from her native Tibet since 1959, Mola’s final wish is to return to Tibet to die near the paradise of her homeland. With her 100th birthday approaching, time is running out.
Director Biography - Yangzom Brauen, Martin Brauen
Yangzom (pronounced YANG-zom) is an award winning Film and TV Director. With her short film "Born in Battle" about child soldiers she received the well known CICT-UNESCO Enrico Fulchignoni Award as well as the UNESCO Gandhi Medal. The film was shown during the UN committee meeting in Geneva and won the audience award at the prestigious Max Ophüls Preis 2016, a leading festival in the European film festival world for new emerging talents among others.Some of her past credits include: 'Matlock' with Kathy Bates, 'Sweet Magnolias' for Netflix, 'American Horror Stories' for FX, 'Walker Independence' for CW, 'FBI' and 'Law&Order' for CBS and NBC...
Martin Brauenborn on March 15, 1948, is an anthropologist, curator, and author. He served as a research associate, deputy director, and interim director at the Ethnographic Museum of the University of Zurich and as a private lecturer at the University of Zurich. From 2008 to 2011, he was the chief curator of the Rubin Museum of Art in New York and subsequently curated various exhibitions in Switzerland in collaboration with the Museum Rietberg, the Art Museum Bern, and the Art Museum Basel.He has authored numerous books and curated nearly 100 exhibitions in Switzerland, the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Austria on topics such as Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Ladakh, and Japan, as well as, more recently, Western contemporary art featuring artists like Bill Viola, Charmion von Wiegand, Wolfgang Laib, and Theaster Gates. Among his most successful books and exhibitions are The Mandala, Dreamworld Tibet, and Bamboo in Ancient Japan.
