Join us on Saturday, August 3rd at Liliha Public Library for a free interactive workshop! We'll be engaging in arrangement of flowers through Ikebana principles. Ikebana is a an old century Japanese art form of arranging flowers to display emotions and feelings to an observer. It emphasizes simplicity, while also appreciating the beauty and tranquility of nature.
This workshop is presented by Mestisa Gass, PhD. She works for a nonprofit that focuses on mental health and suicide prevention. She is a board member for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention - Hawaii Chapter, a member of the Mental Health Task Force and Suicide Prevention Task Force, and an advisory board member for the Waipahu Aloha Clubhouse. Since 2006, she has been working in Hawai'i, being originally from the Appalachian Mountains. She is passionate about bringing education, support, and resources to all communities, especially rural areas like those in which she grew up.
