Description: Wuther with us at the Woodstove Festival! Now is the time to learn the quirky, evocative, and contemporary dance style as embodied by Kate Bush and her hauntingly soulful song, “Wuthering Heights.”
This dance workshop, co-taught by local instructor Cathy Stoyko and her longtime dance associate, Lisa Hamilton, will teach dancers of all levels the simple yet graceful movements characterized by the singular Kate Bush in her video for “Wuthering Heights.” These classic Kate movements are ephemeral yet cathartic, accessible and adaptable to all abilities. No prior dance experience? No problem!
This workshop will teach participants the choreography from the iconic “Kate on the moors” video and is further inspired by the global event known as “The Most Wuthering Day Ever,” where people of all ages, genders, and abilities don a red dress to dance, en masse, every July. In fact, dozens of people gathered in Cumberland Village Square as far back as 2016 to perform this dance, and it has been a part of many Cumberland events ever since.
Keen wutherers will even have the opportunity to perform a short segment of the choreography at the Woodstove Festival dance showcase (optional). Regardless of whether you wuther on stage with us or not, this choreography is sure to feel like a meditation on movement and expression and will make your body feel good!
Festival goers with a ticket can attend. The public can also attend, suggested sliding scale donation ($5-$20).
