Talking about nature with kids doesn’t have to be complicated - it can be joyful, spontaneous, and engaging. This workshop is designed for parents, caregivers, and educators who want to spark curiosity in children by facilitating conversations and activities about the natural world.Together, we’ll explore how to tune into the seasons and use what’s happening outside - falling leaves, buzzing bees, budding blooms, or snowflakes - as natural conversation starters. You’ll learn how to follow a child’s lead, embrace their endless “why” questions, and turn shared moments into opportunities for learning and connection.
We’ll cover what kinds of nature activities resonate with kids, how to talk about change and cycles in a way that feels approachable, and how to learn with children rather than just teaching to them. You’ll leave with practical tools, conversation prompts, and a list of go-to resources to keep the dialogue going long after the workshop ends.
This workshop is designed to help you feel more confident, curious, and connected getting outside with kids. Let’s grow our nature-talk toolkit together.
Connecting with nature is Carley's chicken soup for the soul. Since moving to the Comox Valley in 2020, Carley has worked for LUSH Valley Food Action Society as their Urban Agriculture Manager. Carley creates opportunities for the community to increase local food sovereignty through education, advocacy, and access to growing spaces. She manages community gardens, collaborates with partner organizations like KFN, BC Housing, and SD 71, restores farmland, and delivers workshops to learners of all ages.
