About this Event
Are you a writer looking for some encouragement as well as practical tips on taking your writing to the next phase of the journey? Check out this one-day writing conference with four separate sessions taught by author and industry leader Ruth Buchanan. The four sessions are:
Session 1:The Inner Critic Clinic (11am) While it's important for all writers to bring a critical eye to their own work before sharing it with others, what can we do when our inner critic becomes harmful? While our work will always face some measure of critique, what do we do when the call is coming from inside the house?
In this session, we'll discuss what factors contribute to our inner critic and how to take steps to disempower its voice and step forward in creative confidence.
Session 2: The Anatomy of a Scene: How to Start, End, and Tailor Scenes in Fiction and Narrative Nonfiction (2pm) If you're going to write narrative (whether fiction or nonfiction), you need to know your way around a scene. In this session, Ruth Buchanan will walk us through the elements of strong scene writing, with plenty of practical steps and examples to help the ideas gain traction. This session is best suited for those writing novels, short stories, memoir, narrative nonfiction, and journalistic nonfiction.
Session 3: Dialogue 101: Tips, Tricks, and Techniques to Writing Convincing Conversations (3pm) Feeling daunted by dialogue? No matter what genre you're working in, this session will empower you to craft (and format) strong, voicy dialogue that will keep the reader riveted from page to page. Come ready for a practical and dynamic session that will revolutionize your approach to dialogue.
Session 4: Getting Your Work Out There: How to Write Pitches, Queries, and Book Proposals (4pm) Pitch your work with confidence! Join author coach Ruth Buchanan and learn current best practices for submitting your work for publication. From article pitches to fiction and nonfiction book proposals, we'll look at templates and examples and walk you through each step in the process.
You can sign up for any individual sessions for $49.99, or you can grab the entire bundle of four sessions for 15% off ($169.97)!

Endorsements . . .
“Ruth Buchanan taught a writing class at my store this summer. Her classes were full of useful information that was taught at a rapid, yet easy to keep up with pace. She is relatable, both in her personality and her teaching style. I recommend her to my customers because I know that she is someone I can trust to be professional, reliable and great at what she does. I can't wait to have her come back and teach more classes at my store.”
Amy Williams, As the Page Turns Book Store, Traveler’s Rest, S.C.
“It was a wonderful class and well worth the money–an hour jam-packed with insightful and very useful information on professional writing (both fiction and non-fiction). Ruth made it very clear why she was qualified to teach on the subject and shared practical steps and advice that otherwise would have to be learned through trial and error.”
