World of Twist is excited to announce special guest MOVING STILL, Saudi-Irish producer and DJ, for his debut Scottish show at our vinyl dance party on Saturday, 25th May, at The Rum Shack. Come join us for a night of global grooves and shoulder-shakers from the Middle East and beyond.Known for taking on old gems from the SWANA (South West Asian and North African) regions and turning them into high-energy, feel-good edits with plenty of punch, Moving Still’s journey blends his Saudi and Irish heritage, forging imaginative connections between cultures and exploring new corners of universal club culture.
Marrying traditional psychedelic, percussion-heavy Arabic sounds with electronic disco-not-disco and italo, expect a real mix of SWANA feel-good music showcasing how Arabic electronic music combined with more authentic, traditional sounds can elevate any dance-floor as heard on his essential high-energy ‘Nooriyah’s Middle of Nowhere’ Boiler Room set and his Moving Stills Sabah Il Noor radio show.
We’ve been big fans of Moving Still’s since his debut EP ”With Oud” (based on the nostalgic Arabic fragrance of his childhood), and his italo-esque edit of Egyptian pop star Azza Kamal's "Maadna Bkra" released by Dar Disku is a firm World of Twist favourite. His bass-heavy edit of the wedding classic "Bas Ismaa Meny" and the infectious disco floor-filler "Sidi Mansour" (Moving Still Edit) took the festival circuit by storm featuring in sets by Palms Trax, Hunee, Nabihah Iqbal, and Esa Williams.
In 2021 Moving Still dropped EP "Tafadal تفضل" on Jive Hive Records, taking listeners on a sonic roots journey from the Saudi-African dance tradition of the Mizmar, seamlessly blends acid basslines with traditional percussive patterns as well as collaborating with LA-based record label Discostan on an edits EP, reimagining British-Pakistani new wave tracks by Nermin Niazi.
Returning full circle in 2022, Moving Still unveiled his vinyl EP "Kalam Hub" with Palms Trax’s label CWPT, his most personal offering yet. While forthcoming release, ‘Edits from Jeddah to the Globe!’ ushers in his milestone tenth release with five slammin' edits.
Residents @jamokidd @howbizarrerugs will be digging deep into the crate and spinning a diverse high-energy mix of SWANA Grooves, Psychedelia, to Bollywood Disco to warm things up.
Expect to be taken on a musical journey of both old and new sounds from across the globe, featuring exotic textures and hypnotic percussion from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and beyond!
Jump on the carpet ride and be transported to a warm, distant land.
