About this Event
We are thrilled to share the experience of Yalda night celebration, for the second year. In celebration of the winter solstice, Yalda is historically celebrated in Iran. Though being celebrated mainly in Iran, it is also observed by those in neighbouring countries. As the darkness deepens, we come together to celebrate the rebirth of the sun and the triumph of light over darkness. Friends and family gather, often at elders' homes, to revel in the season's festivities. Nuts and fruits adorn tables, and the light of flickering candles recites Hafiz's poems.
The World in Westminster series is part of the QHT EDI Project, “Westminster for All - Equity, Inclusion and Belonging” sponsored by Deputy Vice-chancellor Dibyesh Anand in collaboration with International Student Champions and the Student Union. The World in Westminster Festival series, after nine successful events in 2023/2024, is currently running for the second year. We have run brilliant and inclusive festival events for all, including: Diwali, Chanukah, Yalda Night, Nowruz, Ramadan and Passover.
