About the Facilitator:

Yan Wen Chang

Yan Wen Chang is a visual artist based in Guelph and is represented by Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto.

In addition to her painting practice, Chang served as Lead Exhibitions Coordinator and Preparator at BAND Gallery from 2020 to 2023 where she oversaw installation planning, artwork handling, condition reporting, packing and crating, and the coordination of complex exhibition changeovers. She later joined Nicholas Metivier Gallery, Toronto, as Preparator from 2023 to 2025, where she further expanded her technical and organizational skills while working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that demanded precision, efficiency, and the upholding of exceptional gallery standards.

Chang has supported independent artist spaces and art fairs across North America, working with both two-dimensional and sculptural works in varied and time-sensitive contexts.Chang is committed to sharing technical and institutional knowledge. She mentors numerous emerging artists navigating exhibition production and professional practice, and is currently a Sessional Lecturer at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. She has delivered numerous public talks about her practice and has served as an external critic for thesis examinations.

She holds an MFA from the University of Guelph (2022) and a BFA from OCAD University (2015). As the first woman in her family to attend university and complete a master’s degree, she approaches education as both responsibility and privilege, foregrounding the cultivation of lasting artist autonomy.
