Join your host Colin Urwin (Northern Ireland) for this fun and practical storytelling workshop, presented by the St. John's Storytelling Festival.
The old rhyme finishes... Something borrowed (family anecdotes, scraps of folklore or traditional motifs), something blue (personal memories or emotions), a silver sixpence in her shoe (inspirational places, objects or possessions).
Following one element or weaving two or more together, storyteller and author Colin Urwin will guide participants through a creative process where "something old" can be reimagined
into a personalized wonder tale that is not just "something new," but eminently tellable.
Location: Gower St. United Church Lecture Hall (enter around the back at the top of Church Hill)
Time: 9am-1:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch break.
Cost: $50/person. Tea and coffee will be provided at the lunch break. Bring your own lunch.
To register, email: [email protected]
About Colin:
Steeped for a lifetime in the language, folklore and traditions of his beloved Glens of Antrim, Colin has long been exposed to traditional Irish and Scottish music, song and story. He regularly appears at local storytelling and music events for schools, libraries, a wide range of community groups, and at international storytelling festivals and conferences all over the world.
In recent years, Colin has worked closely on a variety of exciting artistic community projects with the Armstrong Storytelling Trust led by world-renowned storyteller Liz Weir MBE. For more than two decades he has been the caller and singer in 'Haste to the Wedding' ceilidh band, who are always in great demand all over Ireland and further afield. He is also a founding member of the storytelling group Dalriada Legends.
He serves on the committees of the Glens Storytelling Festival and the Storytellers of Ireland. He is also the Storyteller in Residence for The Waterways Community; a charitable social enterprise creating opportunities for people, schools, businesses and organizations in Northern Ireland.
