About this Event
Calling local newsroom reporters and editors from across the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York tri-state area:
Join Pro News Coaches (PNC) for a skills-intensive, one-day immersion designed to strengthen breaking-news reporting and fast-turnaround editing through guidance and hands-on practice from PNC instructors.
Coaches will lead participants in the following two sessions:
Breaking news essentials: Practice covering breaking news with accuracy, speed, and care—what to prioritize in the first hour, how to fact-check and verify tips (including social media and official statements), how to write early updates that evolve responsibly, and how to handle sensitive, high-impact situations ethically.
Editing for impact: Focuses on fast-turn editing skills such as sharpening headlines and captions, reducing bias and sensationalism, improving clarity and structure in early drafts, applying basic accessibility practices, and strengthening reporter–editor workflows during breaking news.
ℹ️ The seminar also includes a complimentary lunch and networking session. PLUS attendees will receive free passes to First Amendment clinics and trainings on defamation, libel, and bias to be held this fall.
