This hands-on workshop introduces students to colored pencils as a versatile medium, exploring a variety of surfaces ideal for creating beautiful artworks. In 4 weeks, you'll learn fundamental colored pencil stroke techniques that bring texture and depth to your drawings.
This workshop is perfect for beginners wanting to develop foundational skills or for more experienced artists looking to refine their technique. Students must bring their own supplies.
- Week 1: Color Pencil as an Art Medium and Surfaces, Introduction to Colored Pencil Strokes Techniques, 12-colored pencil mixing chart, Demo on how to set up 3-colored project, and Q & A
- Week 2: Critiques of last week projects, Blending with Colored Pencil (Dry and Wet), Layering of Possibilities/Creating Values, Color Saturation and Temperature, and Q & A
- Week 3: Critiques of last week projects, Image Transfer, Creating Dramatic Texture, Layering and Blending (Sphere), and Q & A
- Week 4: Critiques of last week projects, Woman’s Eye, Understanding Values, Basic Color Theory and Mixing Colors, Elements of Design & Achieving, Expressive Effects, and Workshop Review
Materials list:
1. Colored pencils: Faber-Castell Polychromous (Preferred) 12 color set or more. Or Prismacolor Premier (12 color set or more)
2. Prismacolor Colorless Blender Pencil
3. Colored pencil paper Pad (Vellum Bristol or Stonehenge)
5. H Graphite Pencil
6. White block (chisel) eraser
7. Gamsol (OMS, Odorless Mineral Spirit)

About the Instructor:
Galal Ramadan is an award-winning, self-taught master of colored pencil art and an art instructor based in Fort Lauderdale. Ramadan's career spans graphic design, marketing, and business, but it is his passion for colored pencil that defines his artistic practice. A signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA, CPX), UK Colored Pencil Society (UKCPS, UKCPSO), and a member and an elected member of several prestigious international art organizations. Ramadan’s profile and his artwork have been featured in several International Art Magazines. Ramadan has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. His work is known for its vibrant use of color and intricate detail, creating artwork that moves between Expressiveness and Neo- Realism. Ramadan's creative process, rooted in colored pencil, offers a therapeutic experience, allowing him to enter a state of "flow" while exploring cultural themes, the beauty of nature, and the fundamental elements of life. Through his art, Ramadan aims to shift perspectives, telling stories that encourage viewers to see the world in a new light. Ramadan was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt and moved to the USA in 1985.
