Working with Bilingual Children and Families: Tools for Advocacy
Join us for an informative CEU event aimed at providing you with the necessary tools to advocate for bilingual children and their families. This 2-hour workshop aimed at SLPs will provide the legal supports for interpreter use, language for advocating for both speech-language therapy services and ESL in an IEP meeting, interpreting federal and state policy, and language for pushing back on the use of standardized test scores. There will be opportunities for discussion of individual cases and a book giveaway! Please join us and earn 0.2 CEUs. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Latinx commmunity of Pittsburgh.
Leah Fabiano, PhD, CCC-SLP is a Professor, ASHA-certified bilingual SLP, and ASHA Fellow. She has almost 25 years of clinical and research experience in bilingualism and communication impairments. Dr. Fabiano is dedicated to prevention of misdiagnosis of communication impairments in bilingual children and language access for families.
