Working Together: Connecting Safety Officers and Facility Engineers
Laboratory Safety Officers and Facility Engineers share an interest in ventilation, but they come to the topic from different directions. This talk explores familiar subjects, like lab room air change rate, space pressurization and fume hood face velocity but it puts them in context so colleagues from different disciplines recognize what each one needs. This background is especially helpful when there is a problem to solve, we need to find our way through it together.
Learning Objectives
- For safety officers, signs to look for, indicating your engineer partners are on the right track.
- For designers and operators of facilities, learn the conceptual framework of the safety profession, so you where you fill in needed information and how you help control exposure of workers.
- For all, steps to build the common base of facts and goals for everyone’s work. Referring to Z9.5 Laboratory Ventilation standard and other sources for concepts, suggestions and requirements.
- Introduction to the Laboratory Ventilation Management Plan as the unifying document.
