About this Event
Together, we will explore Bharatanatyam, a 2,000-year-old dance form that originated in South India. The teaching artist will highlight the narrative and descriptive aspects of Bharatanatyam by highlighting poetry and literature that reflects the East Harlem community. Participants will also create group stories and poems on the themes discussed. All sessions are beginner-friendly, and adaptations will be provided for all movements. Please visit the library website to register for this event.
About the Teaching Artist: Sloka Iyengar (pronounced "Shloka") is a neuroscientist and practitioner of an Indian dance form called Bharatanatyam, passionate about relieving suffering through scientific inquiry and artistic expression.
