Join us at Avalon Archaeology for a weekend dedicated to the tree-wrights, carpenters and timber framers of the past.Watch skilled craftspeople shape beams with axes, lay out frames, and raise a completed timber structure. See carpenters at work, hewing logs with axes, and laying out frames and cut joints.
What to expect over the weekend:
Saturday 11 April
Woodchips will fly as carpenters demonstrate how our Anglo-Saxon ancestors used traditional tools to square up beams.
Sunday 12 April
This weekend is the culmination of a week-long celebration of woodworking traditions at Avalon Archaeology. Over the course of the week, a small team has learnt how to construct a complete timber frame building from raw logs. Sunday will see all the hard work come to fruition as we bring together and raise the completed frame.
Drop in, no booking required.
