There is an update:The Woodcock are displaying past sunset, so we are going to get started at about 6:45. You are welcome to come and enjoy the sunset and the crepuscular birds, as we will be there from 6:15, but chances are that we will not see Woodcock displays until closer to 7:30.
The State College Bird Town PA Committee invites you to witness one of the most unique courtship displays in the area. At 6:45 p.m. on Friday, March 20, come see American Woodcock males peent, fly in spirals, and produce sound with their wings as they hope to attract a mate. Meet at the Musser Gap Trail parking lot, located on Route 45. Bring a hot drink, a lawn chair, and be ready to take in the sunset and watch the American Woodcock start displaying.
