About this Event
Join us on Thursday, March 19, at 6:30 P.M. for a special Talk & Taste evening at Essex Market in honor of National Women's History Month. We're celebrating three generations of women entrepreneurs who have shaped—and been inspired by—the Lower East Side's culinary legacy.
This panel discussion and tasting is part of Essex Market's Talk & Taste series, in partnership with the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) and Edible Manhattan. Meet our three special guests:
- Moderator Nazli Parvizi, Executive Director of .
- Deb Weiner & Peg Williams of , longtime LES confectionary purveyors.
- Dani Finkel of . Dani founded Mamala to honor cherished memories of growing up between Flushing, Queens, and the Lower East Side with her grandparents. Mamala blends the Yiddish and Jewish cuisines she experienced on the LES with the global flavors of Flushing.
- Niki Russ Federman of . Niki is the fourth-generation co-owner of Russ & Daughters, the iconic appetizing shop her great-grandfather Joel Russ founded in 1914 on the Lower East Side. Known worldwide for its bagels, lox, babkas, and other Ashkenazi Jewish delicacies, Russ & Daughters is beloved by devoted fans from around the globe.
Our guests bring unique insights and experiences, all tied together by their love for the LES. From Dani's newly forged path — she started her culinary business as a pandemic passion project — to Sugar Sweet Sunshine's 20-year legacy as a beloved local bakery, to Russ & Daughters' historic tradition, the panel will span time, place, and the personal journeys each guest has taken.
After the panel, stick around to mingle with our guests and nosh on curated bites in the Essex Kitchen.
