Celebrate International Women’s Day with an intimate live concert honouring the legendary women of jazz, alongside a contemporary repertoire.
Featuring award-winning jazz vocalist Joanna Majoko accompanied by guitarist Andrew Marzotto, the evening features a thoughtfully curated program highlighting iconic artists and composers such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, as well as others who shaped the jazz tradition.
Two 45-minute sets with intermission.
Bio - Joanna Majoko
Joanna Majoko is a Toronto-based vocalist, composer, and bandleader whose work has earned international recognition for its emotional depth, stylistic range, and collaborative spirit. A distinctive voice in contemporary jazz, she is known for performances that balance musical precision with expressive storytelling.
As a recording artist and collaborator, Majoko has worked with a wide range of acclaimed musicians, including Grammy-winning drummer Larnell Lewis, Grammy-nominated artist Ulysses Owens Jr., multi-JUNO Award winner Jane Bunnett, and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee David Clayton-Thomas. Her recorded work includes appearances on Justin Gray’s Grammy Award–winning album “Immersed” and Laila Biali’s Grammy-nominated “Winter Songs,” as well as featured vocal and songwriting contributions to Curtis Nowosad’s “I’m Learning to Be Kind.”
Majoko has performed at leading venues and festivals across North America, Europe, and Japan, including Birdland Jazz Club in New York City, Le Duc des Lombards in Paris, and Internationales Jazz Festival Bern in Switzerland. Her creative practice also extends beyond the bandstand into multidisciplinary collaboration, with original music composed for dance and theatre works presented at venues such as Place des Arts in Montréal and Fall for Dance North in Toronto.
