Women In Movies is a curated series of films and discussions, bringing deeper discussions to the art of film and female filmmakers.
About this Event

•Our host, Award Winning filmmaker, Women & Gender Studies Professor, playwright, and speaker Jennifer Berry. will send out 2 film options each month which members will vote on and you can also watch other free short films from other female filmmakers for free at your leasure.

•We will then have a 75-minute discussion group together. Sundays from 7:45-9pm Eastern Time.

What to expect during our discussion:

We'll kick things off with opening remarks from that month's film curator and/or filmmaker- in conversation with our host, Jennifer Berry
From there, you will be sent into a randomly assigned breakout group, so you'll get a chance to get to know and hear from a wide variety of viewpoints.
Jennifer will provide each group with a series of questions that will help guide your group's discussion of the film.
We will then come back together into the main room for a larger discussion on an additional thought-provoking question.
Finally, we'll wrap with our collective rating of the film, our own thumbs up or rotten tomatoes, so to speak.
(Many gatherings will have guest appearances from the directors of the films we watch.)

FAQs

What sort of films will we be watching?

We will offer a range of films, representing a broad diversity of filmmakers and topics, as well as a mix of genres. These will be films from the past and present that may not have received widespread mainstream release and that you, therefore, might easily have missed seeing. Each month, two film options will be presented to all annual members who will be given the opportunity to vote on which film will be viewed and discussed.

How long will the films be?

They will range from roughly 60 to 120 minutes

Who is curating of the films?

The films will be curated each month by Jennifer Berry.

Can I suggest a film?

Yes, of course! We cannot guarantee that every recommended film will make it onto the list, but we are happy to take all suggestions into consideration.

Where will I watch the films?

We will send information as to where you can find the film ahead of time ( ie netflix, prime, acorn, hulu, itunes, google play, etc.) so that you can watch ahead of the discussion.

We will select films that are available on the most commonly-used streaming platforms and/or that are available to rent for $2.99 (or so) on platforms like iTunes and Amazon.

If viewing any film presents a true difficulty or financial hardship for any member, please let us know and we will do our best to support you in finding a viewing solution!

How long will the discussion be?

75 minutes.

How many members in the film club?

The beauty of this format is that we break out into intimate discussion groups through breakout rooms. So, no matter how much the membership grows, everyone will have a space for their voices to be heard.

What does the fee go towards?

I t covers the time and resources of the curators of the films, our host, and our guest female filmmakers.

If I miss a film or want to cancel after the first session, will I be reimbursed?

While we will allow refunds leading up to the 1st session, memberships are not eligible for refunds after the 1st session.

How do I pay?

Purchase the "2025 Annual Membership" ticket through Eventbrite, and you'll gain access to all of the 2025 dates.

Can I have others on my zoom watch the film with me, ie my partner, daughter?

Yes, but we ask that you keep the discussions to the primary member.

Who do I contact if I’m having technical difficulty?

We will be available 15 minutes before any session to offer general orientation to discussion guide and session links, but will be limited in servicing issues beyond that (for example, we may be challenged in resolving why your sound/video/wifi isn't working on your device, but will happily send you the session link if you misplaced it)
