Women and Bicycling Basics Class (VTA)

Are you a woman (by sex) who is interested in bicycling more but concerned about staying safe? Are you looking to gain confidence, learn the essentials, and get inspired to ride more often? If so, join Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) for an online class about bicycling basics with other women like you. This will be a space to connect with each other and learn about how to choose a bike, plan a route, ride safely on the road, and more!

This engaging and informative session will cover a range of topics aimed at educating and inspiring you to become a more empowered cyclist. Our expert instructors will guide you through:

• Road Safety and Bike Infrastructure: Understand the basics of road safety, bike lanes, and infrastructure to help you ride confidently and safely.
• General Safety Tips: Gain valuable tips on staying safe while cycling.
• Bike Mechanics: Get a basic overview of bike mechanics as well as local resource recommendations from SVBC.
• Overcoming Barriers to Bicycling: Learn about the common obstacles women face when starting out and practical solutions to overcome them.
• Choosing the Right Bike and Gear: Receive guidance on selecting the best bike, lock, and other essential gear to suit your needs and preferences.
• Route Planning: Learn how to plan your rides effectively- whether for commuting, recreation, fitness, and/or riding with children.
• Stories: Hear stories of female cyclists in the Bay Area, showcasing the joy and freedom that bicycling can bring.
