About this Event
On September 16, 2022, a young woman, Mahsa Jina Amini, was murdered in detention by the so-called Morality Police in the Islamic Republic of Iran for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly. Soon, protests started across Iran in defiance of the compulsory hijab laws and for the liberation of Iran’s women from gender apartheid.
Iranian women are still involved in a nation-wide campaign of civil disobedience that amounts to a feminist revolution, despite the brutal crackdown by the regime.
Bänoo Zan and Cy Strom have created an international anthology of poems on this theme, called Woman Life Freedom. They are going to read poetry and speak about the significance of this historical moment.
