Wishing on a Star / dir. Peter Kerekes / 2024 / comedy, documentary, drama / Czechia, Slovakia, Italy, Croatia, Austria / Italian with English subtitles / 99 minutes

Director: Peter Kerekes
Cast: Luciana de Leoni D’Asparedo, Valentina Angeli, Alessandra Fornasier, Barbara Lutman, Giovanni Rugo, Adriana Vangone, Giuliana Vangone

Luciana, a Neapolitan astrologer, promises to help her clients’ wishes come true with a simple ritual: spend your birthday under the “right” stars. Whether that means traveling to a distant destination or recreating it at home, these journeys spark unexpected transformations that reveal what they truly long for.

Wishing on a Star unfolds across several interwoven layers: Luciana’s intimate consultations, the everyday lives of her clients, the quietly magical moments of their birthday trips, and Luciana’s own doubts and desires. Blending fiction with documentary sensibility, Peter Kerekes crafts a film that captures the unpredictability and emotional truth of real lives.
