Litter is so much more visible during the winter months; which makes it seem like there is so much more - on exit ramps, at intersections, in ditches, along railroads, around shopping centers, in creeks and streams, all along wooded areas. Winter Wipeout is an opportunity for volunteers to help clean up areas when litter is much more visible and accessible.2025 WINTER WIPEOUT (February 1-28)

Greensboro Beautiful is excited to announce its upcoming community event, “Winter Wipeout: Coffee and Cleanup,” scheduled for the whole month of February! This inspiring initiative aims to unite residents of Greensboro in a spirited effort to clean up our local parks and green spaces while enjoying warm coffee and community camaraderie.
Winter Wipeout will kick off on February 1st through the 28th where volunteers can organize individual cleanups in areas where they see a need. We will then come together to celebrate our efforts with an end-of-month event on February 22, 2025 from 10:00AM-12:30PM, at Gateway Gardens at 2800 E. Gate City Blvd. where participants are encouraged to gather to enjoy coffee, hot cocoa, and snacks before diving into an East Gate City Blvd. cleanup.
Throughout the month, volunteers will be provided with all necessary supplies, including gloves, bags, and tools to tackle litter and debris in our beloved outdoor spaces. By working together, we can make meaningful progress in enhancing the beauty and health of our environment. “Litter not only detracts from the natural beauty of Greensboro but can also harm local wildlife and ecosystems,” said Amanda Garner, Executive Director of Greensboro Beautiful. “We believe that a small effort from many can lead to a significant impact. Winter Wipeout is a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together, take pride in our community, and enjoy some hot beverages while doing good.”
All community members, families, and local organizations are encouraged to participate. Not only will this event foster a sense of community spirit, but it will also inspire individuals to become stewards of our environment throughout the year.
Here's how it works:
Get a small group of 15 or less.
Select a site to clean up from our online Litter Hot Spots map or suggest a cleanup site of your own.
Sign up and let us know when you plan to clean up your selected site between February 1-28.
Pick up your supplies at 2800 E. Gate City Blvd. in the vending machine area on the right side of the building. Supplies will be labeled and sorted based on your group.
Take pictures before and after your cleanup and post them to Greensboro Beautiful's Facebook or Instagram page. It's a great way to show what a difference we can make!
Sort recyclables and dispose of collected litter with normal trash, or request disposal assistance by emailing specific location of bagged and collected items to Greensboro Beautiful. Styrofoam and glass recycling can be dropped off at Gateway Gardens or any of the many styrofoam locations throughout the city.
After your cleanup, complete this survey to let us know how many bags were collected, how many people participated, and how long it took to complete your cleanup.
