Italy makes more wine than any country in the world, yet Italian wine can feel like one of the most confusing to navigate. Hundreds of native grape varieties, dozens of regions, unfamiliar names on labels, and a classification system that doesn’t always translate easily for American drinkers. The good news is that once you understand a few key ideas, Italian wine becomes one of the most exciting and rewarding wine cultures to explore.
In this relaxed, engaging Wine School class, we’ll break down the essentials of Italian wine and give you the tools to confidently choose, understand, and enjoy wines from across the country. Instead of memorizing complicated lists, we’ll focus on the big-picture concepts that make Italian wine make sense.
Together we’ll explore:
• The major wine regions of Italy and how geography shapes the wines
• Italy’s most important grapes, including Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and more
• How to decode Italian wine labels and understand terms like DOC, DOCG, and IGT
• What to expect from famous regions like Tuscany, Piedmont, Sicily, and beyond
• Why Italian wines are some of the most food-friendly wines in the world
Along the way, we’ll taste a curated lineup of wines that showcase the diversity of Italian wine styles, from bright and refreshing whites to structured and expressive reds.
Whether you're just starting your wine journey or looking to deepen your knowledge, this class will give you a clear, approachable foundation for understanding Italian wine and enjoying it with confidence.

Wine School at The Royce is designed to be welcoming, informative, and fun. No prior wine knowledge required. Just curiosity and a love of good wine.

REFUND POLICY
The Royce will offer a full refund (excluding Eventbrite fees) up to seven days or more in advance of the class date. No other exceptions will be made for refund requests. Tickets can be transferred. When you register for a class, you agree to these terms. Please reach out to [email protected] for transfer requests and additional questions.
CANCELLATION POLICY
The Royce reserves the right to cancel an event in the event of a catastrophe or should reservations remain below the cost necessary to host the event. When you register for a class, you agree to these terms. The Royce commits to notify attendees ASAP and refund the full ticket price to the original payment method through Eventbrite.
