About this Event
Join the curators of Bruce Castle Museum & Archive’s current exhibition, Getting the Measure of William Bedwell, in conversation with Alastair Hamilton and Samantha Brown.
William Bedwell was the Vicar of Tottenham at All Hallows Church, who was a leading figure in the study of Arabic in the early 1600s, as well as having a great interest in mathematics and its application.
The discussion at this lunchtime talk explores the shared interest of Hamilton and Brown in Tottenham’s 17th century vicar. It considers what Bedwell’s manuscripts and books reveal about his life and times, and examines how Bedwell connected early modern Tottenham to the wider world.
All welcome. Free event. Refreshments available.
Doors open at 12 noon for 12.15pm start.
A chance to see the current exhibition about Bedwell, as well as a visit to All Hallows Church after the talk.
