About this Event
Join Wilderness Talks for an afternoon of conversation, storytelling, and ideas, hosted in Wilderness Kitchen. Pair the talk with a £25 Sunday lunch add-on, available before the talk from 1pm.
Women had long campaigned for the right to vote in the UK but the lack of progress was too much one group. For the Suffragettes, it was time for action, “Deeds not words”, even if that meant breaking the law.
They used radical protest tactics, art, debate & propaganda to publicise their cause.
But behind the radical protests were women from all walks of life, from the wonderfully comical General Flora, to the Punjabi Princess, from the quiet teacher radicalised by Churchill, to the Mill workers who had had enough. We’ll look at the history of the movement, the brave women themselves & the their extraordinary achievements
