About this Event
πΏ Wildcrafternoons is a weekly outdoor program, located at the Fibershed Learning Center in Point Reyes, and is intentionally designed for homeschooling and unschooling families with children ages 5 and up. Whether attending regularly or occasionally dropping-in, children will enjoy opportunities to learn, create, play, and grow in connection with our living landscape.
Autumn Semester (14 sessions):
Tuesdays from 12-3pm
Weekly from Sept 9th to Dec 16th
No session on for Nov 25th
Spring Semester (20 sessions):
Tuesdays 12-3pm
Weekly from Jan 6th to Jun 9th
No sessions on Feb 17th, Apr 7th, or Apr 28th
πΏ Each week, we'll gather in the outdoor classroom to explore hands-on projects or concepts that encourage connection with natural materials, local flora fauna and ecosystems, and the seasons. Through these activities, kids engage with their surroundings, various hand tools and materials, and their own imagination in ways that foster creativity, curiosity, and care for nature. Each session balances collaborative discussion, guided craft time, and open exploration, encouraging young learners to learn valuable skills while deepening their relationship with the natural world.
πΏ Some of our planned activities include:
- π± Gardening
- 𧡠Weaving cordage
- π Papermaking
- π Bookbinding
- π Nature journaling
- π Eco-printing
- π¬ Microscopy
- π§Ί Rush basket weaving
- π Nature collages
- π Building bug hotels
- π Insect observation & sketching
- πΈ Flower pressing
- and more! β¨
All activities are flexibly designed and entirely optional; children are invited to participate, observe, or engage at their own pace. To accommodate for shyness, low energy, varied skill levels, and other needs, there will be alternative activities available; and sometimes, it's just nice to just be in nature in a calm space with community.
πΏ Participants should bring:
- A water bottle, lunch or a snack, and clothing layers suitable for changing weather.
- Optional: a picnic blanket or cushion for more comfortable crafting time.
- Activity materials: children may be asked to bring something from home for certain activities such as paper making, seed saving, basket weaving, etc.
