About this Event

‘Wild Times’ exhibition is a highly personal exposition of ‘Wildlife’ and ‘Wild Life’ comprising fabulous stunning paintings by international fine artist Paul James.

As well as being an accomplished musician and composer Paul has been a professional painter for almost 4 decades and a resident of Ireland for the past 20 years or so. Alongside retrospective artworks this collection showcases how Paul’s progressive and unique artistic style has evolved over the past decade.

A consummate, realist artist of wild life animals and the natural world there is also irony in the ‘Wild Times’ and challenges that society is facing.

Paul’s powerful depictions of wild creatures within this collection are impactful in themselves. His intrinsic curiosity, intense passion for exposing truths, his dogmatic questioning nature, all resonate within these newer pieces. Imagery that is fierce, unafraid and does not shy away from uncomfortable subject matter. Instead, Paul confronts the viewer, inviting them to perhaps take a closer look, delving beneath the mainstream surface and drawing their own conclusions.

It is this rebellious artistic streak within him that ensures Paul’s work remains highly relevant, fresh and pertinent today. That being said the show offers a diverse range of images, to suit a variety of interests and tastes, all executed in Paul’s inimitable style; sheer craftsmanship, with incredible attention to detail in every brushstroke.

You may find solace from observing his exquisite landscapes; many of which have an ethereal quality evoking a sense of calmer times. Paul’s skill in depicting both light and atmosphere, is apparent within these beautiful scenes.

Alternatively, you may find joy in his expressive animal characters and note elements of Paul’s sense of humour throughout. Art has always been subjective, which in itself represents our freedom to choose what we like or dislike, what we approve or disapprove of, what we see or choose not to see.

A wry dry sense of humour maybe or a deep subliminal message. There is no right or wrong answer. Paul presents you the observer, you the interpreter, with the choice to make that decision for yourself. He just asks that you let his artworks speak for themselves and open your mind to all the possibilities they offer.
