The Ngaio Marsh Awards, in association with the Arataki Visitor Centre and Auckland Council, invite booklovers to a thrilling event featuring a trio of award-winning and bestseller Kiwi storytellers.
As crime and thriller writing - fiction and non-fiction - has evolved from puzzle-like mysteries to books delving deeply into psychology, people and places, it has continued to be one of the world’s most popular forms of storytelling. What draws us to darker tales?
Two-time Ngaio Marsh Award-winning writer Michael Bennett is joined by internationally bestselling authors Nalini Singh and Rose Carlyle for a criminally good conversation about crafting compelling storylines and memorable characters, and the impact of place and real-life themes. Auckland lawyer and book awards judge Darise Bennington will keep the peace and prosecute the offenders.
WHEN: Saturday, 8 June 2024
WHERE: Arataki Visitor Centre, 300 Scenic Drive, Oratia, Waitakere
WHEN: 2pm

Michael Bennett (Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Whakaue) is an award-winning filmmaker and novelist whose films have been selected for festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Toronto and New York. He is the only person to have won Ngaio Marsh Awards for non-fiction and fiction - for his books IN DARK PLACES, detailing the story of Teina Pora, and BETTER THE BLOOD, the first Hana Westerman mystery.
Rose Carlyle is a lawyer and keen adventurer. She has crewed on scientific yachting expeditions to subantarctic islands and has sailed with her family from Thailand to South Africa. She is the author of the #1 international bestseller THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR and lives in Auckland with her three children. Her second thriller, NO ONE WILL KNOW, will be published internationally in October 2024.
Nalini Singh is a West Auckland storyteller and New York Times bestselling Queen of paranormal romance as well as an acclaimed mystery and thriller author. A Fijian-born former lawyer and librarian, Nalini's latest thriller THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN EIGHT was an Amazon Editor's Pick for Best Mystery, Thriller and Suspense.
Darise Bennington is a book-loving West Aucklander and a litigation and dispute resolution expert at one of New Zealand's leading law firms. She's a regular Mystery in the Library event chair, appeared onstage at Rotorua Noir, and is a Ngaio Marsh Awards judge.
