About this Event

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, effective design goes far beyond aesthetics — it plays a crucial role in shaping patient experiences, enhancing safety, and improving clinical outcomes. This session delves into the transformative power of design in healthcare, demonstrating how thoughtful and innovative approaches can address real-world challenges.​


Speakers

Adam Badzynski, Design Strategist at Cancer Digital Intelligence (CDI)

Adam Badzynski is a designer specializing in UI/UX design, service design, and design research methodologies. With over eight years of experience at University Health Network, Adam has contributed to teams focused on at-home care, human factors evaluations, and, most recently, cancer care. As an advocate for design, he emphasizes the importance of placing the patient at the center of the conversation when creating products and services for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

In addition to his healthcare work, Adam teaches drawing for Industrial Design at OCAD University and enjoys crafting functional ceramics in his spare time. Follow him on Instagram @adambadzynski to see his pottery creations.

Crystal Chan, Occupational Therapist and Designer

Crystal Chan is a clinician-designer who brings a relational approach to her work in healthcare innovation and strategic foresight. With a background in clinical practice, strategic consulting, and inclusive design, she integrates a biopsychosocial and systems approach with life-centred design principles and strategic foresight to respond to complex challenges in mental health and aging care.

She has led projects in crisis continuum coordination, measurement-based care curriculum development, and advocacy for mental health and addictions supportive housing. Her experience at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and in community settings informs her trauma-informed approach to practice and understanding of the diverse needs of stakeholders across healthcare and community projects.

Crystal values co-design and participatory engagement, facilitating workshops and research that amplify diverse voices in health and social service. In addition to her work in healthcare, her commitment to learning extends to her roles as a human-centred design teaching assistant at OCAD University, a design mentor at McMaster University’s iBioMed program and Shad Canada and an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine. She is currently working towards her Master of Design in Strategic Foresight & Innovation at OCAD University.
