About this Event
While American craft distilleries have been making single malts for years, it is only in the last few that the regulators have caught up and created an official category for these spirits.
Traditionally, single-malt whiskey - produced from 100% malted barley at a single distillery - has been the star product of Scotland and a major part of the whiskey industries of Ireland, Japan, India, Taiwan, and many other locations. America has largely remained wedded to whiskey made from grains, be it corn, rye, or wheat; however, the boom in craft distillers in the last few decades has led to a drastic increase in the production of malt whiskey in America.
In this class, Evan Christie will explore the landscape of American Single Malt whiskey, from producers that have pioneered the category to upstart distillers just joining the fray to experienced grain whiskey makers dipping their toe in the whiskey, so to speak. Expect to experience a wide range of flavors from mellow, gentle malts to aggressive, well-oaked powerhouses. Plan to taste spirits that hail from all around the United States from all sorts of producers. Come and see why the American Single Malt category is poised for explosive and exciting growth.
Must be 21+ to attend.
