About this Event
Whim Wood is part of Whim Bog SSSI and is situated just south of Leadburn. The bog itself is a lowland raised bog habitat important for several species of sphagnum moss as well as bog asphodel and the carnivorous round-leaved sundew.
On this visit we will be removing the roots of invasive rhododendron to ensure it doesn't come back. This will help the woodlands on the site to regenerate and improve biodiversity.
Please note: Stump removal is very hard work as it requires a full day of digging and mattocking. Be sure you are ready for this before you book!
We encourage volunteers to use our minibus for transport. If you live near this task and wish to make your own way you must ring Debbie on 07510959496 to book a space and for joining instructions.
Please bring your lunch and wear appropriate footwear (boots or wellingtons) and waterproof outdoor clothing.
NEW VOLUNTEERS Please only book one task initially. If you do not attend without letting us know, we may cancel any additional task bookings. If you are under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a guardian. Please contact us to discuss arrangements for volunteering with us , or whether other organisations might be more appropriate.
