About the workshop

A full-day live workshop on the essential skills for acting for the camera across TV and screen media.

In this intensive, enjoyable, and focused day, Amanda Boyle will draw on her vast experience as a director. With a roster of popular, award-winning BBC and Channel 4 credits, Amanda’s work is known for powerful performances. Her credits include Cast Offs, Skins, and Chloe, featuring Erin Doherty’s standout role.

Throughout the day, Amanda will:

  • Share insights and expertise in her approachable manner
  • Cover script preparation, self-taping, casting, on-set experience, rehearsal techniques, and the nuances of screen acting
  • Highlight what she loves about performances and her (short) list of "no-nos"
  • Provide individual feedback while fostering a fun and collaborative learning environment

Working with a group of 12, participants will explore both comedy and drama, performing texts from Amanda’s previous work and other acclaimed TV shows. Improvisation games will be included to enhance learning and build confidence. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with new skills, peer insights, and increased confidence.

Learning outcomes:

  • Tell the story using life not lines.
  • Use the frame effectively.
  • Bring an improvisational quality to the work.
